FREE Annual Backyard Musical Theater Production

Each year in late July, Bunce Performing Arts hosts a free outdoor musical in the beautiful backyard of the Bogle family in Dayton, MN — a beloved community tradition drawing hundreds of families and theater lovers.

Expect an unforgettable experience featuring:

A welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere
A live orchestra pit
Professional-grade sound and lighting

Performances begin at 7:00 p.m., but we recommend arriving early to secure a great spot with your blanket or lawn chair. Nightly attendance averages 500-800 people.

No dogs are allowed at the performances.

In case of weather concerns, cancellations are announced by 5:00 p.m. on the day of the show on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

A High-Quality Production, Powered by Passion

Each free outdoor theater production is led by professional directors and technical personnel, ensuring a polished and memorable performance. Our cast of approximately 45 volunteer, semi-professional performers generously share their time and talent without compensation.

In true community spirit, these same cast members also help build the set and assist with costumes, contributing both on and off stage to bring the show to life.

Free to Attend — But Powered by Community Support

Because the musicals are free and open to the public, we rely on donations and volunteers to keep the tradition going. Producing these shows requires more than $24,000 each year.

We need community support with:

Parking and ushering guests
Preparing meals for the cast and crew
Serving concessions
Donations to help pay for our professional staff and show licensing fees

What to Bring

A lawn chair or blanket
Bug spray
Cash for concessions and donations
Non-perishable food items for donation to CROSS Food Shelf
